Scripture Resource Passage: Exodus 13

I like shortcuts. I love shortcuts to success. Shortcuts are great for just about everything except getting the flu.

Unfortunately, not all my shortcuts work out with glorious outcomes. Sometimes perfectly well-intentioned shortcuts thunder as disaster approaches like Frankenstein’s footsteps.

At other times I’m not close to catastrophe, I just walk right in and introduce myself. I’m just being truthful.

“No surprise here,” responds the counsel of the wise.

I found these words buried in a supernatural intervention. “…God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter” (emphasis added, Exodus 13:17). God deliberately and sovereignly chose these people, then directed them around the shortcut. Deep sigh.

Life  Application Questions

When obstacles to success occur do you suppose God could be involved?

When obstacles to success occur are they results of mistaken judgment or a divine intervention?

How do I tell the difference between a mistaken shortcut and an intervention by God?

Confession

In the eighth decade of my life I remain on the long way around. I am not always grateful. Some days are painful. My feet hurt. My soul wearies; and, I still do not understand. One truth moves me along and to this truth I cling with tenacity. Jesus walked a path like mine. I believe he is who, he said he is.
